No Departing For This Department Store

Being originally based in Thorpe Bay, we have a long history of working in and around the Southend area. One such example is the old Perrings building on London Road. As seen in this 1987 hand-drawn advert for the store opening, the building has changed very little since it was built, despite being refurbished multiple times. The large bay windows allowed shoppers to look out from the first-floor café in the department store. The store had one of the earliest Multibeton underfloor heating systems with fully condensing boilers. The large footprint with minimal wall space and consistent heating loads meant this was an ideal space heating solution.

Recently converted into one & two-bedroom apartments, this building will be a feature of the Northern gateway to Southend’s high street for many more years to come.
